| I'm organizing these photos 10 years later
and didn't have any notes from this trip, but I remember that
we read somewhere about a travelling exhibit of mosaics from the
Vatican art collection was coming to New Orleans. So we planned on
going there on a long weekend. Connie had recently moved to stay
with Lucy. Her cat Garfield also moved there and the background
for these images is Garfield hiding out in Edward's pantry.
I'm probably posting these images backward from when they were shot but here are some images of NewOrleans in 2007.
So the prime reason for the trip was to see the display of Mosaics from a travelling exhibit of the Vatican Museum. The Ursuline Convent has been converted to an art museum and it hosted the display. The Old Ursuline Convent is located at 1100 Chartres St. in the French Quarter. We found it pretty easily. The Old Ursuline Convent is the oldest building in the Mississippi Valley. The convent was completed in 1753. Over the centuries, this building has been a convent for the Ursuline nuns, a school, an archbishop's residence, the archdiocesan central office, a meeting place for the Louisiana Legislature. Later, it served as a residence for priests and then housed the Archdiocesan Archives. Today it forms the Catholic Cultural Heritage Center of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. So for the display of mosaics, they had several tents set up on the grounds that you walked through to view the art. You also got to see the handcrafted cypress staircase the building is known for. In addition to the mosaics you got to see the gardens outside. Pleny of different types of herbs and flowers. I also have a few photos of the statues outside.
